What is a DOI and how do I find it?

Answer

When you’re looking at an article in a library database, the DOI is usually listed on the main information page (also called the detailed record) along with the title, author, and publication information. Example: 10.3138/jsp-2017-0017

If you open the article PDF, you can often find the DOI near the author’s name or in the citation details.

A DOI (Digital Object Identifier) is a unique code made up of numbers and symbols that permanently identifies an article online. It’s like a digital fingerprint for that publication.
